Rodney Toole is an American rapper known by his stage name, Young Hot Rod. He is signed to G-Unit Records.
Biography
Early life
Originally from Sacramento, the Phoenix-based former mortgage broker's rapping career started with a phone call. His style has been described as similar to 50 Cent with lots of hooks and a melodic delivery. As such, his lyrics do not include violent content and drug-dealing."[1] He is also signed to Money Management Group, which is a subsidiary of G-Unit Records.
G-Unit Records
He was initially signed to G-Unit Records after a CD containing a sample of his music was sent to the G-Unit offices in New York. 50 Cent liked what he heard and offered Young Hot Rod a position on his label. Hot Rod recalls:
I'm at work like, 'Are you serious? Shut the fuck up!. All the way up to that point everybody that I talked to said the whole demo thing was a wrap. I was the type of nigga like, 'Whatever, I’ll send a demo because I know my shit was hot.'[2]
50 Cent commented on Young Hot Rod's style. He said:
Rod’s music sounds like somethin' I would do. If he had the same aggressive content that I have, in his music, then I would say he’s tryin’ to copy my style. But his music is a reflection of his actual lifestyle.[2]
Albums
Debut album
Fast Lane is title of Young Hot Rod's debut album. Originally, the album was set to come out in mid-2006, but was later pushed back so that it would not coincide with other G-Unit Records releases. The album currently has no confirmed release date.[3]
It was originally announced that the album was completed in little over three weeks with the help of 50 Cent[2] however Young Hot Rod has stated that he is still recording for the album.[3]
Young Hot Rod commented on the delay and said:
It’s all about timing, you know what I’m sayin’, the past three, no six months, June, May, since like May it’s been all Curtis. It’s Curtis time, so now nothing is gonna get in the way. That whole train you feel what I’m saying. It came out, and everyone was excited.[3]
In May of 2008, he released his debut single I Like To Fuck with features Tila Tequila and Beau Dozier, who also produced the song.
