Scope
This WikiProject aims to:
- tie in directly to the Los Angeles and Los Angeles County articles to improve accessibility to high quality Los Angeles / SoCal-related articles. The Portal is intended as a front page for Wikipedia's Los Angeles coverage, and should aid the reader in navigating around the articles. It should also draw attention to current events and some of Wikipedia's best Los Angeles related articles.
- support LA related articles by ensuring that Wikipedia has plenty of high-quality articles to showcase and ensuring that readers starting with the project can find their way around easily
- this project will involve making sure that the articles are well organised (through the use of categories) and ensuring that due attention is paid to the further reaches of the.
- be truly international - this project particularly welcomes participants from anywhere in the world. The project should be used to highlight articles that concern Los Angeles and Southern California that most readers may not be aware of.
- Oversee the development of LA / SoCal-related articles - for example, through the Collaboration of the fortnight or "Adopt an article" program.
- Provide a clear structure of how LA / SoCal articles are arranged on Wikipedia and present the project so as to facilitate reading and research
- Coordinate efforts and peer review articles

- Compile all templates, infoboxes and categories relating to the coverage of politics and link to them via this page (use a subpage if the list will be too long)
- Assemble a list of all featured content
- Advertise like mad! Add link to the Southern California, California or US portal and as many City and California pages as possible - please expand this in any way you see fit
- That's all for now, but please add to this list if you have further ideas on how to get this project up and running!
WikiProject Featured Article
Downtown Los Angeles Skyline
Los Angeles ( IPA: /lɒˈsændʒəlɨs/) is the largest city in the state of California and the second-largest in the United States of America. Often abbreviated as L.A., it is an alpha world city having an estimated 2006 population of 3.8 million. and spanning over 469.1 square miles (1,214.9 square kilometers) in Southern California. Additionally, the Los Angeles–Long Beach–Santa Ana metropolitan area is home to nearly 13 million people who hail from all over the globe. They speak more than a hundred different languages. Los Angeles is the seat of Los Angeles County, the most populous county in the United States. Its inhabitants call themselves "Angelenos." The city's most popular nickname is the "City of the Angels."
Los Angeles was founded in 1781 by Spanish governor Felipe de Neve as El Pueblo de Nuestra Señora la Reina de los Ángeles de Porciúncula (The Village of Our Lady, the Queen of the Angels of Porciúncula). It became a part of Mexico in 1821 following its independence from Spain. In 1848 at the end of the Mexican-American War, Los Angeles and California became part of the United States. It was incorporated as a municipality on April 4, 1850—five months before California achieved statehood.
Los Angeles is one of the world's most prominent centers of culture, technology, and international trade. It is home to world-renowned institutions covering a broad range of professional and cultural fields. The city and its immediate vicinity lead the world in producing popular entertainment — such as motion picture, television, and recorded music— which forms the base of Los Angeles' international fame and global status.
Adopt an article
Similar to the Collaboration of the fortnight, but on a smaller scale, you might want to "adopt" an article. This would involve doing the research, writing, and picture-taking (if possible) for either a non-existent article or a stub. Of course, everyone else can still edit an adopted article, and you can work on other things too, but the idea is to find a focus for a while, to try and build up the number of quality articles the Project has produced. You can also add any articles to be worked on in the To-Do Section of the project.

New Los Angeles-related articles (bot-assisted)

- All the area code articles need to be better defined, standardized and linked. Someone needs to go through and make a master article for Los Angeles Area Codes, and include them with social/ethnic impact. The price of a home can drop dramatically if it is north of Mulholland just because the area code changes to 818. 71.156.32.40 (talk) 23:46, 30 July 2008 (UTC)

- Keep Los Angeles up to date. Also clean up grammar, too many full stops, etc. Routinely update WP:WLA articles and review ratings assessments if required.
