Vlodrop (Limburgish and town dialect: Vlórp) is a town in the southeastern part of the Netherlands in the municipality of Roerdalen. The town is situated near the German border, about 8 km southeast of Roermond.
Vlodrop was a separate municipality until 1991, when it was merged with Melick en Herkenbosch.[1]
In 2001, Vlodrop had 1995 inhabitants. The built-up area of the town was 0.51 km², and contained 850 residences.[2]
The most famous resident may be Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, who lived in Vlodrop-station, a small hamlet close to Vlodrop, until his death there in 2008.[3] Maharishi occupied the former Bishopric College St. Ludwig.citation needed Celebrities such as Paul McCartneycitation neededGeorge Harrisoncitation neededand David Lynch are said to have visited the Maharishi in Vlodrop at several occasions.
The world famous roller coaster manufacturer Vekoma is based in Vlodrop.
