Crusade move

Hey, if you're going to move a page, never, ever, do it manually like you did with the crusades page. And if you're going to move a page, don't move it to a worse title. Adam Bishop 02:07, 9 January 2006 (UTC)

Well I assume what you did was try to move the page and discovered there was a redirect page already there, which had also been edited more than once...in that case you'd have to get an admin to delete the redirect. Copying and pasting the contents of one page into another means the edit history of the page is lost, which is bad. For the crusade article, it would also be a good idea to bring a move like this up on the talk page; that has also been done in the past and there is never any agreement about where to move it, so the best idea is to just leave it where it is. Adam Bishop 02:42, 9 January 2006 (UTC)

This image needs more information. Could you please tell me either where you found it, or put on there that you created it. Sorry if this seems a little pushy, but there really wasn't any info on the page. Palm_Dogg 06:41, 15 January 2006 (UTC)

Edits to my user page

Why were you editing my user page? If you were just fixing something, that's fine. In the future, please leave an edit summary that answers the question, "Why did you make these edits?" --TheLimbicOne(talk) 20:38, 16 January 2006 (UTC)

re. Direct domain

Yahoo and Google register domain names in the same way that anyone else does, by going to a domain name registrar and paying to register their domain names for a certain length of time (for example, the domain name "google.com" is registered through the registrar MarkMonitor until September 2011[3], when someone at Google will have to remember to send them some more money.) Who you need to go to, and how much it costs, varies according between top-level domains, but it doesn't cost much. Regarding your question, "Are there free or one time fee registars?", there is almost always an anual fee, although there are some sites that offer free domain names, typically in return for advertising - just type something like "free domain name" into google. -- AJR | Talk 23:50, 20 January 2006 (UTC)

Request for edit summary

Thank you for your contributions. And I have a request. I would like to ask you, if possible, to use edit summaries more often when you contribute. An edit summary helps others understand what you changed when checking the watchlist or the recent changes, and often times complements studying the diff. Think of it as the "Subject:" line in an email. I hope you don't mind. :) Cheers – Oleg Alexandrov (talk) 00:55, 29 January 2006 (UTC)

Re: Sibelius

I'm still unsure what you mean, I suppose because I haven't used Finale very much. What is "mass" copy and paste as opposed to ordinary copy and paste? Can you describe what you're trying to do, instead of how you would do it in Finale? rspeer / ɹəədsɹ 19:16, 12 February 2006 (UTC)

I guess I left your Sibelius question unanswered. You select multiple measures in Sibelius by clicking at one end and shift-clicking at the other end. (If you click in the empty space in a measure, you'll be sure to select the whole measure.) Then you can use Edit/Copy and Edit/Paste, or the option-click shortcut, to copy the selected measures. rspeer / ɹəədsɹ 06:47, 20 February 2006 (UTC)

Confirmation that Kwantus passed away

You left a message on User:Kwantus's talk page that the editor passed away. Can you confirm this, including (if possible) a link to an obituary or something. I have created a page at Wikipedia:Deceased Wikipedians and would like to honor Kwantus on the page but need more information and a source of info to do so. Main Page banner

I just want you to be aware that there is a Main Page banner template. Whenever Wikipedia, as a community, has something to say to the public, it's on the Main Page. It's been there since 2004 and is edit protected (does not apply to you, of course). --hello, i'm a member | talk to me! 17:38, 30 March 2006 (UTC)

Yes, I've edited that template. You appeared to be referring to the new header box (which isn't a template, though perhaps it should be), as that's where you added the disclaimer. —David Levy 19:37, 30 March 2006 (UTC)

Image copyright problem with Image:False potato beetle.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:False potato beetle.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me, or ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Nv8200p talk 02:08, 21 April 2006 (UTC)

I've seen the same question asked three times in the reference desk with the same answer every time: No, there is no progrem (free or commercial) that will count the number of pixels in an image of a certain color. Orphaned fair use image (Image:NotionScorewriterProgramBigLogo.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:NotionScorewriterProgramBigLogo.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. License tagging for Image:H4-E1 Arms.png

Thanks for uploading Image:H4-E1 Arms.png. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

ADQ party colour

Regarding your changes to Template:Canadian politics/party colours/ADQ, you need to note that the colour you've insisted upon is too close to, and not easily distinguishable from, the colour already in use to designate the Progressive Conservative Party of Canada. If you would like to propose a colour change, please discuss your reasoning at Template talk:Canadian politics/party colours, but do not revert it again without discussion. The party colour must be more easily distinguishable from other party colours than the one you chose happens to be. Thanks. Bearcat 06:09, 8 April 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Dospueblos.dp.11953.png

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Dospueblos.dp.11953.png. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 01:16, 3 June 2007 (UTC)

Good luck in these next few hours, and in the future,

Speedy deletion of Brandon School (Goleta, California)

A tag has been placed on Brandon School (Goleta, California) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. I have tagged Image:Adware.png as {{no rationale}}, because it does not provide a fair use rationale. If you believe the image to be acceptable for fair use according to Wikipedia policy, please provide a rationale explaining as much, in accordance with the fair use rationale guideline, on the image description page. Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Clancampbellcrest.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Clancampbellcrest.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 20:17, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

Sorry

Sorry about my formal catchphrase. Its something that sticks with me every since I made the cardinal raven poem. Just as much as the name sticks. I'm sorry it is confusing. But its just my thing. I will tone it down.Cardinal Raven (talk) 20:57, 29 March 2008 (UTC)Cardinal Raven

Image copyright problem with Image:Goleta city seal.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Goleta city seal.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

PHP-Webcomic example

I've created a basic example which you can find here. There are a number of improvements that I can make which I will have a go at later, but as it stands it's just one page two images - each "comic" would be a numbered image: 1, 2, etc. -=# Amos E Wolfe talk #=- 10:20, 30 September 2008 (UTC)
