United States District Court for the District of Utah 

The United States District Court for the District of Utah is the Federal district court whose jurisdiction is the state of Utah. The court is based in Salt Lake City with another courtroom in Ogden.

The United States Attorney's Office for the District of Utah represents the United States in civil and criminal litigation in the court.

According to 28 U.S.C. § 133(a), the District of Utah is allowed five active district judges. These currently include: Chief Judge Tena Campbell, Judge Dee Benson, Judge Dale A. Kimball and Judge Ted Stewart. Judge Paul G. Cassell returned to teaching at the University of Utah S J. Quinney Law School in November 2007.

Federal judicial districts are also allowed to utilize “Senior” Judges in addition to the limit set forth in 28 U.S.C. § 133(a). Currently, the active Senior Judges within the District of Utah include: Senior Judge Bruce S. Jenkins, Senior Judge David K. Winder, Senior Judge J. Thomas Greene and Senior Judge David Sam.

The magistrate judges at the Salt Lake City courthouse include Magistrate Judge Samuel Alba, Magistrate Judge David Nuffer, Magistrate Judge Paul M. Warner and Magistrate Judge Brooke C. Wells. Magistrate Judge Robert Braithwaite is a part-time magistrate judge in St. George, Utah.
