Umberto Barberis (born June 5,1952 in Sion, Switzerland) is a former Swiss-Italian footballer, currently managing Lausanne Sports.
Playing career
He started his career in Switzerland, playing for FC Sion in his native town, and then for Grasshopper Zurich and Servette FC, winning the Swiss Super League and the Schweizer Cup in 1979. He left his country to play for Division 1 side AS Monaco FC where he was elected foreign player of the year by France Football magazine in 1981 and 1982, along with Andrzej Szarmach[3].In 1982, he also won the Division 1 title with AS Monaco FC.
He was capped 54 times and scored 7 goals.
Coaching career
He coached various Swiss sides such as Lausanne Sports, FC Sion, Servette FC...He currently coaches Lausanne Sports.
Out of the pitch
He is the father of footballer Sébastien Barberis.
