The Torghut (Torgud) are one of the four major sub-tribes of the Oirat people. They formed Oirat alliance with other 3 main tribes. Their name is also variously romanized as Torgut, Torghuud, Torguud, or Turgŭt.
They were royal bodyguards of Great khans before Kublai khan. During Oirat khanate, Khoo Orlug separated from Oirat alliance and moved to Volga with his torguds in 1630. Their descents had been lived there till XVII as independent state.
But some of torguds stayed and incorporated into Zungar empire. After the fall of Zungars, torgud Taiji Shiiren fled to Volga with 10,000 families of his subjects in 1758.
