Thomas Oldham Barlow was born in Oldham, Lancashire in 1824, the son of Henry and Sarah Barlow. He was apprenticed to a firm of engravers in Manchester before moving to London. He engraved works after Sir John Everett Millais, John Phillip, Landseer, Richard Ansdell and Turner. He was elected an Associate Royal Academician in 1873 and a full Royal Academician in 1881. Barlow died in 1889
