The Museum of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences

The Museum of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is a building in the planning stages set to open in Hollywood as a major tourist attraction. It is being planned by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences[1]. It will be located on Vine Street, just south of Sunset Boulevard.

The museum will be open year-round and become a landmark attraction for Hollywood and the greater Los Angeles area, a place for watching and learning about film and filmmaking, for exploring film’s relationship with the greater world and for listening to stories told by filmmakers themselves. It is scheduled to open in 2012.

It will be in the current parking lot of the Pickford Center for Motion Picture Study.

Design Team

The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures will be designed by French architecture firm Atelier Christian de Portzamparc. The selection was approved by the Academy’s Board of Governors, based on the recommendations of the Architect Selection Subcommittee, chaired by Academy member Jeannine Oppewall.[2]
