Tate Reeves

Tate Reeves (b. 1975, Rankin County, Mississippi) is the State Treasurer of Mississippi. He is a Republican and one of the youngest state officeholders in the USA.

As State Treasurer, Reeves maintains the official financial records of Mississippi.

Personal life

Tate is an honors graduate of Millsaps College, with a degree in Economics. While at Millsaps, he played point guard for the Millsaps Majors Basketball Team.

Tate and his wife Elee are parents of one child, Sarah Tyler.

Election to office

Reeves entered the 2003 GOP Primary a virtual unknown, and was a longshot to beat Wayne Burkes and state representative Andrew Ketchings of Natchez. However, Reeves proved an excellent fundraiser and gained strength in counties that were GOP strongholds, such as Lamar, Desoto, and Rankin. Reeves led the GOP primary, and routed Burkes in the primary run-off.

In the general election, Reeves defeated past Gary Anderson, the state's director of finance & administration, to become Mississippi's first GOP state treasurer since Reconstruction.

During his first year in office, he was elected Vice President of the National Association of State Treasurers.
