The United States Census Bureau has defined 940 Core Based Statistical Areas^[1] (CBSAs) for the United States of America. The Census Bureau defines a Core Based Statistical Area as one or more adjacent counties or county equivalents that have at least one urban core area of at least 10,000 population, plus adjacent territory that has a high degree of social and economic integration with the core as measured by commuting ties.^[2] The 940 Core Based Statistical Areas currently defined by the United States Census Bureau include the 363 Metropolitan Statistical Areas^[3] (MSAs), which have an urban core population of at least 50,000, and the 577 Micropolitan Statistical Areas^[4] (μSAs), which have an urban core population of at least 10,000 but less than 50,000.

2. The CBSA name as defined by the United States Census Bureau
3. The type of CBSA: MSA = Metropolitan Statistical Area, μSA = Micropolitan Statistical Area
4. The states or federal district in which the CBSA is located
5. The CBSA population as of 2007-07-01, as estimated by the United States Census Bureau
6. The CBSA population as of 2000-04-01, as counted by the United States Census 2000
7. The percent CBSA population change from 2000-04-01, to 2007-07-01, as estimated by the United States Census Bureau
8. The Combined Statistical Area^[6] (CSA) if the CBSA is a component. The Census Bureau defines a Combined Statistical Area if a two or more adjacent Core Based Statistical Areas have substantial commuting ties.
