The Swimming events of the 2008 Summer Paralympics will held in the Beijing National Aquatics Center between September 7th and 15th, 2008. A total of 140 medals are expected to be distributed..

Classifications

Athletes are allocated a classification for each event based upon their disability to allow fairer competition between athletes of similar ability. The classifications for swimming are:

• Visual impairment
  • S11-S13
• Intelectual disablity
  • S14
• Other disablity
  • S1-S10 (Freestyle, backstroke and butterfly)
  • SB1-SB9 (breaststroke)
  • SM1-SM10 (individual medley)

Events

Due to the classification process, there will be more than one set of medal in each event, for example only oneset of medals will produce in the men's 100 metres in the Summer Olympics, but there will be more than 10 sets in the same event at the Summer Paralympics.

  • 200 m freestyle - 4
  • 400 m freestyle - 8
  • 50 m backstroke - 5
  • 100 m backstroke - 8
  • 50 m breaststroke - 1

  • 50 m butterfly - 3
  • 100 m butterfly - 6
  • 150 m individual medley - 1
  • 200 m individual medley - 8
  • 4×50 m freestyle relay - 1
  • 4×50 m medley relay - 1
  • 4×100 m freestyle relay - 1
  • 4×100 m medley relay - 1
• Women:
  • 50 m freestyle - 11
  • 100 m freestyle - 10
  • 200 m freestyle - 1
  • 400 m freestyle - 6
  • 50 m backstroke - 3
  • 100 m backstroke - 6
  • 100 m breaststroke - 7
  • 50 m butterfly - 2
  • 100 m butterfly - 5
  • 150 m individual medley - 1
  • 200 m individual medley - 7

Qualification

There will be 560 athletes (330 male, 230 female) take part in this sports.
