Swedish Match is a Swedish company based in Stockholm that makes snus, tobaccocigars(handmade and processed), pipe tobacco, Red Man Chewing Tobacco, dipping tobacco, matches and lighters. It was founded as Svenska Tändsticksaktiebolaget by Ivar Kreuger in 1917 in Jönköping ("City of the matches"). The company changed its name in 1980. The company owns Svenska Tobaks AB founded in 1915.
By expanding through acquisition of national monopolies and merging with the British company Bryant and May, in 1926, it became the world's largest match manufacturer.

Expansion in Southeast Asia
In 1999, Swedish Match has signed an agreement to acquire 40 percent of Indonesia's largest producer of matches, P.T. Java Match Factory (Jamafac). The company has production units in Jakarta and Bandung.
Cooperation between Swedish Match and P.T. Jamafac, which was initiated in 1971 and expanded in 1996, has now been formalized in a joint venture agreement aimed at strengthening Swedish Match’s position in Southeast Asia.
