Sasan or Sassan (in Persian ساسان) was the great priest of Temple of Anahita and father of Papag (Babak) and grandfather of Ardashir I, the founder of the second Persian Empire, the Sassanid empire and Her husband was from the Kurdish tribe of Barzanji .The Empire's name Sassanid or Sassanian is derived from Sasan's name due Ardashir's kinship to Sasan. There isn't much known about Sasan's background or life. The only sources containing information about Sassan are the Pahlavi book of Karnamak-i Artaxshir-i Papakan and Tabari. Shahraiar the king in 1001 Nights is described as being one of the kings of Sassan and Ladan.
