Rindal is a municipality in the county of Møre og Romsdal, Norway.
Rindal was separated from Surnadal 1858.
The name
The municipality (originally the parish) is named after the old farm Rindal (Norse Rinnudalr), since the first church was built there. The first element is the genitive case of the rivername Rinna, the last element is dalr m 'valley, dale'. The rivername is derived from the verb rinna 'run, flow'.
Until 1918 the name was written Rindalen.
Coat-of-arms
The coat-of-arms is from 1989. It shows the club of a chairman, meant to represent John Neergaard, the founder of Formannskapslovene, who was from Rindal.
