Ranjit Shekhar Mooshahary 

Ranjit Shekhar Mooshahary is current Governor of State of Meghalaya in India. He took office on July 1, 2008.

[1]He was born at Oldaguri in Kokrajhar district, now under Bodoland Territorial Area Districts, of Assam. He completed his pre-university study in Union Christian College, Umiam and then graduated from St Anthonys College, Shillong with honours in Political Science.

Mr Ranjit Shekhar Mooshahary an IPS officer of 1967 batch was allotted the Kerala cadre. He worked on important assignments in Kerala and was the chief of Crime Branch CID and the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau.

Apart from Kerala, Mr Mooshahary has occupied several distinguished posts. He was in the Cabinet Secretariat, has served in Assam, Tamil Nadu, Jammu and Kashmir and Rajasthan. He was appointed as Director General of National Security Guards in February 2002. Under his leadership, the National Security Guards has grown into an elite contingency.

He has headed the elite NSG for nearly three years before being shifted to the BSF in 2005. He was the first IPS officer from the northeast India to be appointed as the Director-General of the BSF. Mr Mooshahary was awarded with Police Medal for Meritorious Service and the President's Police Medal for Distinguished Services. He has also served in the CRPF, besides the state police forces of Assam, Tamil Nadu, Jammu and Kashmir and Rajasthan and has done a commendable job in combatting terrorism, besides guarding the borders.
