National Taiwan Ocean University (traditional Chinese: 國立臺灣海洋大學; simplified Chinese: 国立台湾海洋大学; Hanyu Pinyin: Guólì Táiwān Hěiyán Dàxué; Tongyong Pinyin: Guólì Táiwan Hěiyán Dàsyué, abbreviated as NTOU) is a national university in Keelung, Taiwan.
History
The predecessor of NTOU was a junior college for the study of maritime science and technology, founded in 1953. Because of government policy, it was transformed National Taiwan Ocean University in 1989. At present, the University has five colleges and one center including fifteen departments and nine graduate institutes, staffed with 590 faculty and administrative members and a student enrollment of 8,476 in 2004.
