Metromix is a joint venture between Newspaper publishers Tribune Co. and Gannett. A guide to local restaurants, bars and clubs, events, concerts and movies, Metromix is available now in Chicago, Los Angeles, New York and six other large markets on the East Coast. The company will expand to launch a national network of local entertainment websites in 25 of the nation's top 30 markets and in a total of more than 40 markets by the end of 2008.[1]
Originally launched by the Chicago Tribune as a youth-oriented listings site, metromix.com recently celebrated its tenth anniversary there. The site targets young, socially active adults looking for an insider’s perspective on local trends and hotspots. Users are typically 21-to-34 years-old with significant disposable income. It has earned numerous awards including the EPpy Award for Best Entertainment Site and the Digital Edge Award for Best Advertising Program.[2]
In early 2008, Tribune launched an off-line print edition of the website called LA Metromix. With an unaudited circulation of 100,000 in the Los Angeles market it competes against LA Weekly and LA CityBeat for readers and local ad dollars. The "quick read" content concept and "hip" design are "interesting and neat". The paper is run by veteran (and former LA Weekly) club accounts director Diane Stone and edited by Deborah Vankin. Current supporters of LA Metromix include avante-garde clothing retailer American Apparel, the Knitting Factory, Mitchell Frank's Spaceland brand nightclubs, Safari Sam's, major concert promoter and owner's of the Staples Center, Nokia Theatre, and the soon-to-be completed Citizen's Bank Arena (in Ontario, CA) AEG and the entire music section (editorial and ads) is sponsored by LiveNation......it is an advertising program which is also best described as "interesting and neat".
