History
Licensed by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) in November 2000 to CanWest under the name Adventure. Lonestar was launched under its current name on September 7, 2001.
Programming
When Lonestar was first launched by Canwest in 2001, Lonestar's programming consisted strictly of Western and rural themed programming consisting of mainly scripted and lifestyle television series along with films. In recent years, Lonestar has begun to air more general action and adventure programing unrelated to the Western theme of its early years and a considerable amount of that being movies, eventually to the point where the general action and adventure and movies programming made up the majority of the schedule.
It was announced by Canwest on August 21, 2008, that Lonestar will rebrand itself as MovieTime on October 6, 2008. MovieTime will showcase action and adventure films. Essentially, it will simply be a rebranding of the network rather than a change of format due to the fact that Lonestar's current schedule consists mainly of the type of programming that MovieTime will offer.
