The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) operates a number of bus routes in New York City, United States. Express buses operated by the NYC Transit Authority, or under contract by Atlantic Express, are assigned an express (x) prefix, while those operated by MTA Bus are assigned multi-borough (for instance QM) prefixes.

These routes were formerly operated by private operators under contract to the New York City Department of Transportation prior to takeover by the MTA.

Manhattan to Brooklyn

These routes, operating weekdays and Saturdays, were operated until 1979 by the Pioneer Bus Company, and then operated by Command Bus Company from 1979 until MTA takeover in December 2005. Routes operate via 5/Madison Avenues in midtown Manhattan, 23 Street, and via Church Street (inbound) and Water Street (outbound) in lower Manhattan, unless noted to the contrary.
