Jonathan Chait (born 1972) is a senior editor at The New Republic and a former assistant editor of The American Prospect. He also writes a periodic column in the Los Angeles Times. A graduate of the University of Michigan, he wrote for The Michigan Daily while in college. He began working at The New Republic in 1995. His writing has also appeared in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Slate and Reason.

Chait supported the invasion of Iraq, and described opponents of the war as "deluded by the hope that they can have multilateralism and disarmament without the risk of war." [1] He is a vocal critic of the Bush administration, including its handling of the war and occupation.

He took over The New Republic's TRB column from Peter Beinart in March 2007. He also writes frequently on The Plank, TNR's group blog.

His book, THE BIG CON: The true story of how Washington got hoodwinked and hijacked by crackpot economics, was published by Houghton-Mifflin Sept. 12, 2007
