Investec (JSE: INL and LSE: INVP) is an international specialist banking group that caters to the high-end market, providing a diverse range of financial products and services.
History
The company was established as a leasing company in 1974 in Johannesburg and acquired a banking license in 1980. In 1986, Investec listed its stock on the JSE Securities Exchange in South Africa. Since July 2002, Investec has been a dual-listed company consisting of Investec Limited (Johannesburg) and Investec PLC (London).

In 1998 Investec acquired Guinness Mahon, a leading London based merchant bank for £95m, thereby acquiring in the process, the leading practioners of regulatory reporting ("The A-Team"): the deal also involved the purchase of Henderson Crosthwaite, a firm of stockbrokers.[1]

Currently, Investec operates primarily in South Africa, the United Kingdom, and Australia. The group also has banking operations in Ireland, Switzerland, Mauritius, Guernsey and the United States.
