Frank TV is a TBS collection of advertisements starring Frank Caliendo. The advertisements are interspersed with playoff baseball and refer to a fictional sketch comedy show ostensibly starring himself. In the advertisements, Caliendo attempts to impersonate political figures, television and film personalities, and sports figures. Though brief portions of Major League Baseball games are usually shown between his Frank TV advertisements, Caliendo sometimes appears superimposed over a crucial playoff at-bat to attempt an impersonation and obscure the game.
The first episode of Frank TV premiered on November 20, 2007. The series is filmed in front of a live studio audience and features an array of sketches filmed in front of various sets to resemble the likes of popular TV shows. In some sketches, Frank impersonates multiple characters on screen at once, such as one spoofing a Seinfeld reunion show set in the future where he plays Jerry, George, Kramer, Elaine, and Newman; and another with Al Pacino and Robert De Niro as movie critics.
On February 21, 2008, TBS announced that they ordered eight more episodes to premiere later in 2008.[1] According to the TBS website, the second season will begin on October 21.
Advertising
TBS aired teaser commercials for the show during their coverage of Major League Baseball.when? A teaser was also released and shown in movie theaters before the official trailers began.when? These ads featured Frank dressed up as one of his many characters, often 3-5 in the same advertisement. The ads were played non-stop and made people hate the show before the first episode even aired.
