Floridsdorf is the 21st district of Vienna, Austria, located in the northern part of the city.
The District Office and the centre of Floridsdorf are located round Am Spitz, at the junction of Prager Straße (Prague Street) and Brünner Straße (Brno Street).
Since 2004, Floridsdorf has its own tower: The Florido Tower.
The SCN (Shopping Center Nord) is the biggest shopping centre in Floridsdorf.
There are different parts of Floridsdorf which are former villages. For example there is Stammersdorf, Strebersdorf and Leopoldau. Through this Floridsdorf is mostly a very rural district with many taverns selling homegrown wine (Heurige)
History
The first settlers are estimated to have come between 4000 and 2000 B.C. Judging from stone tools that have been found, they appeared to be hunters.
Around 500 B.C. Celtic people came, but were soon driven out by the Romans. For a long time it was uninhabited; it became a buffer zone between Rome and Germanic tribes.
