In 1987 Dubrovnik Airport handled 1.5 million passengers and 2500 tons of cargo, making 1987 year the busiest thus far. Dubrovnik is expected to hit those figures in 2010.
Expansion
Currently a new 36.500m² terminal is under construction, along with 4 jet bridges; new terminal will have a projected annual capacity of 3,5 million passengers. Further expansion is planned after 2011, with more room and an 4 additional jetways. This will increase the capacity further to 5,5 million passengers per year.
The terminal at the Dubrovnik Airport once completed will be largest in Croatia. Future airport plans call for an extensive economic zone and a large four-star airport hotel, and long-term plans call for a second runway whilst turning the existing runway in to a taxiway. This should increase the runway capacity and number of landings/take offs.
