The various shades of the color coral are representations of the wide range of colors of the class of cnidarians also called corals. The complementary color of coral is turquoise.

The color coral pink is displayed at right, a pinkish color. This is perhaps the most common color for corals.
The source of this color is the ISCC-NBS Dictionary of Color Names (1955), a Color dictionary used by stamp collectors to identify the colors of stamps--See sample of the color Coral Pink (color sample #26) displayed on indicated page: [1].
The complementary color of coral pink is teal. The first recorded use of coral pink as a color name in English was in 1892. [4]
Coral Red
The color coral red is displayed at right. This is a representation of the color of red corals.

As a footnote, red coral is also found frequently in jewellery. In 2007 it has become a fashionable accessory, however a lot of the red coral jewellery is given the color by a dye made from red mangrove. It nevertheless remains an endangered species and caution should be exercised in buying natural red coral.
