Bayan Nur (Mongolian: Bayannaɣur; Traditional Chinese: 巴彥淖爾; Simplified Chinese: 巴彦淖尔) is a prefecture-level city in western Inner Mongolia. Until December 1st, 2003, the area was called the Bayan Nur league.
Bayan Nur city has an area of 65,788 km². It borders Mongolia to the north, Alxa to the west, Ordos to the south and Baotou to the east.

In 2000, there were 1,682,662 inhabitants:
At the end of 2004, the population was at around 1,79 million inhabitants.
Administrative Subdivisions
Bayan Nur is divided into one district, two counties and four banners:
- Linhe District (临河区), 2,354 km², 550,000 inhabitants (2004), Bayan Nur city's administrative center;
- Wuyuan County (五原县), 2,493 km², 280,000 inhabitants (2004), administrative center: Longxingchang (隆兴昌镇);
- Dengkou County (磴口县), 4,167 km², 120,000 inhabitants, administrative center: Bayangol (巴彦高勒镇);
- Urat Front Banner (乌拉特前旗), 7,476 km², 340,000 inhabitants (2004), administrative center: Ulashan (乌拉山镇);
- Urat Middle Banner (乌拉特中旗), 22,606 km², 140,000 inhabitants (2004), administrative center: Haliut (海流图镇);
- Urat Rear Banner (乌拉特后旗), 24,925 km², 60,000 inhabitants (2004), administrative center: Bayan Bolig (巴音宝力格镇);
- Hanggin Rear Banner (杭锦后旗), 1,767 km², 300,000 inhabitants (2004), administrative center: Shanba (陕坝镇).
