On 4 January 2008, a scheduled domestic Transaven flight from Simón Bolívar International Airport serving Caracas to Los Roques Airport off shore in the Atlantic Ocean reported 64 miles north of the port of departure that both engines had failed and that it was at altitude 3000 feet and descending. The pilot was to attempt ditching as close as possible to the Los Roques archipelago. Active sea and air searches were called off without finding any trace of the aircraft, but a life-vest associated with the craft was recovered on January 13. [1]

Background

The aircraft was a Let L-410UVP-E3 (registration number YV2081), built in Czechoslovakia in 1987.
