Éver Banega (born June 29, 1988 in Rosario, Santa Fe) is an Argentine professional footballer currently playing for Valencia. His preferred position is as a central midfielder.
Club career
Boca Juniors
Banega came through the youth ranks at Boca Juniors and it was not until he moved to the first team that he won international recognition, thanks to his passing average and his performances in the local league. After Boca midfielder Fernando Gago moved to Real Madrid, Banega was named as his successor despite his young age.[1]
He made his professional debut in the 4-0 victory against Banfield on February 10, 2007. On April 2, 2007, just a few matches after making his debut, he was given an ovation when he left the field.[2]
Valencia
On January 5, 2008, Banega signed with Spanish side Valencia on a five and a half year deal, for a fee of around €18m .[3] He began his first training session with the club on January 7, 2008.[4][5] Banega soon made his debut for the club in a La Liga match against Atlético Madrid on January 13, 2008, coming on as a substitute during the break and playing the entire second half of the game, which Valencia lost 1-0.[6]
International career
Banega helped the Argentina national under-20 football team win the 2007 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Canada. Soon after joining Valencia's squad in January 2008, Banega made his debut for the Argentina national team in a 5-0 friendly win over Guatemala on February 6, 2008, which Banega started.[7][8]

Personal
In August 2007, someone who might be Banega was caught on webcam in a chatroom and the clip has appeared on numerous websites and in the Spanish press following his move to Valencia CF. Although there is no real evidence that it was actually him in the video due to the relatively low quality footage. [9]
